Director of Library ServicesPOSITION SUMMARYThe Assistant Librarian assists in the operations, management, and supervision of the University Library to provide maximum services to students, faculty, and administration.
This position helps to manage the Library's technology and digital services and acts on behalf of the University in the absence of the University Librarian.
This position serves the University students, faculty, staff, students, and the community by positively and appropriately communicating and educating clients about University Library services and policies.
The Assistant Librarian may, under the guidance of the director, undertake special projects or other duties not listed below.
Therefore, the Assistant Librarian's specific duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
MAJOR FUNCTIONS Create, coordinate, and promote displays, events, and other university and student-related promotional materials.
Supervise, train, schedule, and provides work assignments, online circulation functions, and other orientation and training as needed for student Library employees.
Create a positive atmosphere conducive to learning and service within the Christian mission of the University.
Assist patrons, faculty, students, and staff with online Library resources, technology, and other Library needs on an ongoing basis.
Oversee equipment needs within the Library, coordinating with appropriate University departments.
Coordinate reciprocal borrowing and lending activities following copyright guidelines and consortia agreements.
Assist in maintaining the primary library collection, including shifting, weeding, and troubleshooting.
Support the library director in the maintenance and communication of library policies and consistent management practices.
Assist in supervising the Library operation, including evaluating workflow patterns and establishing and enforcing operating standards and guidelines.
Support the library director in the administration of daily operations and assumes responsibility for such operations--in consultation, when appropriate, with the VP for Academic Affairs, to whom the Library employees ultimately report--in the temporary absence of the director.
Remain up-to-date on trends and best practices in the library profession.
Coordinating with the director, faculty, and staff to identify and develop innovative best practices.
QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred Previous library required; Higher education experience preferred Ability to think analytically and work independently and collegially Demonstrated IT experience with databases, or ability to learn Detail-oriented and highly organized Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students Strong work ethic Commitment to higher education in a Christian University Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and library-specific software Ability to lift 30 lbs.
